New York City’s many layers of texture, created by generations of urban development, each building on its predecessors identity. The china town district exemplifies this behavior, one culture incorporates the other, slowly carving out belonging and home. Burying it’s roots deep in the fabric of the city, resisting pressure from the influences of the cities evolution. Where other communities succumb to the displacement effects of gentrification or identity distortion caused by tourism, china town weathers the storm. Like an ocean bound rock formation, the currents flow around it, seemingly unchanging.
